When are increment - stationary random point sets stationary ? Antoine

چکیده
In a recent work, Blanc, Le Bris, and Lions defined a notion of increment-stationarity for random point sets, which allowed them to prove the existence of a thermodynamic limit for two-body potential energies on such point sets (under the additional assumption of ergodicity), and to introduce a variant of stochastic homogenization for increment-stationary coefficients. Whereas stationary random point sets are increment-stationary, it is not clear a priori under which conditions incrementstationary random point sets are stationary. In the present contribution, we give a characterization of the equivalence of both notions of stationarity based on elementary PDE theory in the probability space. This allows us to give conditions on the decay of a covariance function associated with the random point set, which ensure that increment-stationary random point sets are stationary random point sets up to a random translation with bounded second moment in dimensions d > 2. In dimensions d = 1 and d = 2, we show that such sufficient conditions cannot exist.

When Are Increment-stationary Random Point Sets Stationary?

متن کاملRandom fields of bounded variation and computation of their variation intensity
The main purpose of this paper is to define and characterize random fields of bounded variation, that is random fields with sample paths in the space of functions of bounded variation, and to study their mean total variation. Simple formulas are obtained for the mean total directional variation of random fields, based on known formulas for the directional variation of deterministic functions. I...
متن کاملSome New Methods for Prediction of Time Series by Wavelets
Extended Abstract. Forecasting is one of the most important purposes of time series analysis. For many years, classical methods were used for this aim. But these methods do not give good performance results for real time series due to non-linearity and non-stationarity of these data sets. On one hand, most of real world time series data display a time-varying second order structure. On th...
متن کاملThe Limit Distribution of the Maximum Increment of a Random Walk with Dependent Regularly Varying Jump Sizes
We investigate the maximum increment of a random walk with heavy-tailed jump size distribution. Here heavy-tailedness is understood as regular variation of the finite-dimensional distributions. The jump sizes constitute a strictly stationary sequence. Using a continuous mapping argument acting on the point processes of the normalized jump sizes, we prove that the maximum increment of the random...
متن کاملZeros of Random Analytic Functions
Zeros of Random Analytic Functions The dominant theme of this thesis is that random matrix valued analytic functions, generalizing both random matrices and random analytic functions, for many purposes can (and perhaps should) be effectively studied in that level of generality. We study zeros of random analytic functions in one complex variable. It is known that there is a one parameter family o...
